This is Ilya Muromets, an epic hero, a prototype of which some researchers consider to be a historical character, a strong man nicknamed “Chobotok”, who became a monk in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra under the name of Elijah and in 1643 was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church as “venerable Elijah Muromets”, part of whose relics – the middle finger of his left hand – is located in the Savior Transfiguration Male Monastery of Murom (Vladimir region, Russia), as part of the symbolic burial of the hero with a copy of his sword of 2006.
